As I was reading this book, I was going back and forth with my thoughts and opinions. If I had to rate the chemistry (and spice) separate, I would give 5 stars. But when I think about the surrounding story, it really pulls down my rating. I love the way Tessa Bailey tells a story, and the dual perspectives make me melt! I love reading two people fall for each other and struggle with their feelings; that will always bring up my enjoyment. Sadly, I think the plot and the specific character's hang ups couldn't pull this any higher for me. Tallulah had a VERY dark part of her past that clearly left her with trauma. She wants freedom and to feel powerful enough to take care of herself. Burgess wants to be the defensive protector to everyone he loves. Do I enjoy both of these characters? Absolutely. Do I think the biggest flaw of this book is that they just don't fit and belong together? Also yes. I think each of these characters could have had a different love story that made much more sense together. The plot meandered and by the end, I just didn't believe it.

I'm going to be so honest, I loved Tuhlulah and Burgess much more than Josephine and Wells. I also preferred hockey to golf BUT I liked the spice in Fangirl Down more 😜 all that being said, I loved this book & wasn't prepared for Tuhlulah's heavy storyline. This book didn't drag like I felt Fangirl Down did and I was hooked the whole time. I also really enjoyed the side characters, Chloe, Sig & Lissa. I wish these audios were dual but I think Callie Dalton did a really great job regardless!

ok so here's the thing...i was entertained at first. i'd never read a hockey romance or a tessa bailey book & i thought hey, what the heck, let's try this. however, i regret to report this read like she put her story idea into chat gpt and asked for it to write a book for her.

the jokes were bad, the writing worse, chemistry??? i couldn't find it. everything was so so repetitive and i felt so exhausted by all the time i had to spend in this lame ass man's head. plus, all the tropes were a mess of let's just throw these at the wall to see what sticks.

i mean, the success of her books baffles me!!!!

and yet it WAS bingeable so i kept reading even tho so much wasn't working for me?????

i finally got distracted with a game and forgot this book existed until i got the notification that it automatically returned and all i can say is, i'm glad that's over.

I have never been so disappointed by a Tessa Bailey book! I found Tallulah’s tragic back story over-the-top and unnecessary for creating what were ultimately run of the mill trust issues. The
third act reunion
was also unsatisfying.

If you like romance books there is no reason for you really not to like this one. I think this book has just caught me at the end of my romance tolerance. How many times can you really be expected to try and like the male lead when any other male character in the book acting the same way would be demonized? Like can we please just get men who respect what women say? Idk especially given the VERY traumatic event the female MC endured how was his behaviour not called out more especially after the third act conflict? I liked them at first but as time went on they both got on my nerves and just didn’t act like real people and i get it’s a romance book but the power of 💕love💕 doesn’t undo that amount of trauma. I think I’m also just sick of abuse being an inappropriately used plot point/character trait to be solved by the love of the male MC. Anyways I’m probably just being over critical but it’s a fun read if you don’t really care about that stuff.
