Adam Nevill does a great job of creating relatable, ordinary people and dropping them into extraordinary situations. There’s a distinct, lingering sense of ‘this could be me’ when you are reading and that’s what makes his stories so terrifying! Take that paranoid feeling, throw in an infamous true crime cult story (who doesn’t love one of those) and a couple of unwitting documentary film makers and voila - you have a really disturbing, unsettling and brilliant horror yarn!

Yup, Adam Nevill writes everything I want in a horror novel. This was my second book by him and both were 5 star ratings from me. I will definitely be back logging every book!

Mildly spoilery review regarding pacing:
The first 60% I think is great horror, the next 20% is literally practically solid exposition dump, and the last 20% is mostly an action flick. It’s like it didn’t know what it wanted to be. That said, I enjoyed each part, it’s just not very coherent as a whole.
