I always stuggle with reviews, but this one is particularly challenging. Both in making a numerical rating and in writing my thoughts. I honestly loved the way this book was written, I've found that it depends on the topic at hand for me to decide if I like this type of prose. It got confusing in some POVs or sections more than others, either because of the writing style, or just because I forgot what was happening in that POV. I really enjoyed the throughline of tree/nature sentience. I think it made the book feel like Magical Realism, which is something that I love.

The first section of the book (Roots) was much more compelling to me than the rest. I found the combination of familial history with tree type to be quite novel and a thilling way to introduce characters/POVS. This is probably the only slow paced book that I actually survived.

I would love to expand on this book by returning to it after reading more non-fictions about trees. I would also love to read more books with themes eco- terrorism and activism, it's a topic that this book introduced to me, and I find it really interesting!
