Super fascinating. Love the prediction of what humanity would achieve at the peak of segregation: species branching. The elois and the nocturnals. Scientific extremity/exaggeration. Shuddered at how Wells described the end of the world - the dying red sun and the giant crustaceans.

I really liked this book! The prose was lovely. The theme was thought provoking. I enjoyed the narrative style of the time traveler telling his story to his guests. I see how the movie The Man From Earth took inspiration from this, but this is way better. My two complaints were that the traveler's relationship with Weena seemed potentially creepy, and that I felt bad for the violence against the Morlocks. I definitely want to read more H.G. Wells though. This is my kind of sci fi!

Ken and I enjoyed listening a new production of HG Wells' classic The Time Machine on audio this summer - first time I'd ever read/heard the story! - and we both really enjoyed it. Read my full review at:
