I did not vibe with this. The MC’s felt so fake and cheesy in the worst way. I know I’m reading a romance book but it felt wildly over exaggerated. Nobody talks like that in real life about how they are so perfect all the time.
They were “best friends” (only knew each other for like maybe 2 years) but like neither really found the other attractive at all, or thought to do anything about it until the kiss cam.
Yes men and women can be friends but it went from platonic to “she’s perfect and everything and mine” overnight. It felt weird.

really enjoyable and fun
its friends to lovers which isnt my fav trope but it worked here bc it was also fake dating. its abt shawn who is aidens bsf that signed him up for the photoshoot in book 1 and who is also an nfl football coach and lacey who is maggies bsf. lacey and shawn are also bsfs bc of maggie and aiden. at a football game laceys date like refuses to kiss her on the kiss cam so shawn does it and they decide to fake date after that bc it went viral and people thought they were together. lacey thought it was make her look good at her holiday work party and shawn needed someone to bring home for the holidays.
i loved laceu. i like her sm more than maggie. shawn was so good. i loved the way he was w lacey. they were fun but bc they were in their what like late 30s early 40s i felt kinda disconnected from it so.
chelsea curto writes smut well is all i will say.
im giving it 4 stars bc it was good but im just not a big fan of friends to lovers.

Lacey is so oldest daughter independent woman coded i literally had to stop and freakout some times because Shawn was so perfect for that. He was so acts of service and was trying to do everything to make it better for her. That she hates most pet names was so real and the NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP UGH the story building and the LOVE LIKE GUYS! the snowball fight and the fact that his family loves her i just cant i love them so much i cant wait for the next book in the series

Friends to lovers and fake dating are such good tropes, and this one was done very well. The chemistry was undeniable and it was so clear both had feelings long before the actual agreement, but were too scared to ruin the friendship.
However. This book could have been HALF as long and still been good. Better, probably. Things were repetitive (especially the spice scenes — I love a good spicy scene but they were all so similar and SO many of them! Pare it down, no need to tell us every time they do it 😅) and I found myself dialing up the speed until I just didn’t care to finish anymore.

I loved Lacey and I loved Shawn on their own in the first book, so I was super excited to see this book was about them. These two are great on their own, but they’re even better together. They have such killer chemistry.
Shawn was protective, maybe one of the most protective MMCs I’ve ever read about, and it was so sweet. He and Lacey both had such big hearts, and their sunshiny-ness was infectious.
Unfortunately, my timing was less than ideal, what with the events that happened in the US this week, and that slowed me down a bit. I would tend to zone out, but that had less to do with the writing and more to do with my mental state.
TW: panic attacks
