I had such high expectations but this was essentially Twilight fanfic ... and the ending .... no words.

It took me forever to read this one, it’s deffo not on the same par as In my dreams I hold a knife and the last housewife. Aggressively average in my opinion. Although yeah there are dark themes and I’m a dark themes girl.

So, basically swamp town Louisiana, population religious cult. This is a story of religious trauma following Ruth, the pastors daughter who falls in love with an Edward Cullen wannabe, Everett but they are forbidden to see each other, because Everett is the towns outcast and that’s no man for the pastor’s daughter right? But Ruth has other ideas, a certain darkness inside of her that will reframe everything she has ever known, epseically when a string of murders happen that are blamed on “the low man.”

Guys, I don’t know what it is, this is different from her other work and it just didn’t work for me. There were parts that were just such a slog to get through, and I found myself bored to say the least. I do think the religious trauma is handled well. Just, I didn’t have any attachment to the couple, this didn’t excite me.

This feels like an episode of Riverdale, in fact I’d be surprised if she wasn’t inspired by Riverdale because there are some references and similarities.
