This collection finishes stronger than it starts but the stand out by far is Amal El-Mohtar's Anabasis which if rated alone would be 5 stars

This was basically the ebook I had on my phone for when I ended up places that I didn't feel like carrying a book and didn't have enough time to read for very long. All of the stories are super short and thus it served that purpose. It's a mediocre anthology as far as how good the stories were.

That was definitely fun, the only one I did not like was the one by Jo Walton. Poetry, yuck! :)

Flash fiction... She persisted

A grouping of stories no longer than a few pages each. All based around the idea "She was warned, yet she persisted." Some were quite good and emotive, others forgotten as soon as the page was turned, but none were 'bad'. My favorite was 'Astronaut', with 'Alchemy' a close second.

I’m not sure flash fiction is for me - just too short! Glad I tried it though.

You really can't really get more across than an emotional vignette in flash fiction which is why its maybe not as satisfying as other formats.

But these stories are all truly lovely examples of the genre.

She had patience. The patience of stones worn away by wind and water, of continents creeping into one another to create mountains, of crystals growing in dark places. The patience of a planet caught in orbit around a sun that would last ten billion years before burning it all back to stardust. She longed to be stardust.

My real mouth is full of sharp teeth and a sharper tongue, three languages coiled like snakes in my throat, scaly and silent. My real mouth is an armoury of words forged in the furnace of my chest, hot as a spitted sun. My real mouth is a storm, and my voice is thunder.

Winter 2021 (January);

I picked this up ages ago with Tor.com released it and then never got around to sitting down and reading it (except, of course, for [a:Catherynne Valente|16376981|Catherynne Valente|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], which I had read instantly). I saw a friend had read it lately, and felt compelled to follow in her footsteps. I fell so hard and so deep into this book, and I loved so very many different of the types of stories of women persisting in these small 1-4 page stories.
