I really liked "Persephone" and "Astronaut." The others ranged from "huh" to "that was nice/interesting"

"She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nonetheless, she persisted."

This is a really good opening line for a story. Heck, it can be a really good opening line for a couple of stories. For the greater part of 11 very short stories, though... it gets to be a bit much.

To be clear: I'm not blaming the authors themselves here. Some of the stories are rather nice. But the prompt itself draws too much attention to the whole point of the book, until it's a bit like being hit over the head repeatedly with the same feminist point.

There are some worlds built here, and the authors have different styles, so I guess that's nice, but I feel like this collection is flawed from its conception.

I think I liked the idea of this book better than the execution. Every story is just a couple pages long but it’s really hard to develop a story that way. It’s all based on what Mitch McConnell said about Elizabeth Warren’s silencing on the American senate floor. “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted” so every story is based around that line. Some stories are 5 stars, especially the last one of the book, but there’s a number that just don’t work for me.

This was my first foray into flash fiction, and I find that it's not for me, but I loved how differently each author interpreted the prompt. I preferred the ones with more overt feminist leanings given the quote that inspired the project, and some, like "Anabasis" by Amal El-Mohtar, were breathtakingly executed. It's for the ones like hers that I'm bumping this up to four stars.

I've never read a flash-fiction anthology before, so I wasn't sure what to expect but I really enjoyed this. Little snippets of story, but all of them showed the amazing talent of the authors to create a fully formed story in only a couple of pages. Very worth an hour's reading.

Well written collection of flash fiction. Not as uplifting as I was hoping for today but quite good.

Winter 2021 (January);

I picked this up ages ago with Tor.com released it and then never got around to sitting down and reading it (except, of course, for [a:Catherynne Valente|16376981|Catherynne Valente|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], which I had read instantly). I saw a friend had read it lately, and felt compelled to follow in her footsteps. I fell so hard and so deep into this book, and I loved so very many different of the types of stories of women persisting in these small 1-4 page stories.
