I struggled to get through the first book. Almost put it down and DNF’d on more than one occasion. It seems like the author was so hellbent on making everything a mystery that nothing really made sense. I stuck it out, eventually things started coming together and making sense. I did not like the chapter’s from Michele’s POV especially since his was written in third person. I could probably go a lifetime never hearing the words “pet” or “pretty girl” again, which sucks because my husband sometimes calls me pretty girl, but it is GROSSLY overused. Raf calls her pretty girl in pretty much every sentence he says something to her. I’m annoyed at his inability or unwillingness to say I love you to Noelle because of Lucero even though his internal dialogue admits that he does. So when she says I love you to him, he responds with “I adore you.” I’m likely nitpicking at this point because I got so annoyed with the book at one point so then even small things started to stand out. The spicy scenes are yuck. His whole kink is extremely forced especially seeing as how until they finally did the deed he was a virgin and the talking during the scenes are beyond cringy and the dialect between Raf and Noelle have become exceedingly repetitive. They pretty much just say the same thing over and over and how neither of them want the other to know who they truly are because they would never look at them the same. If you’re wondering why I’m still reading…..so am I.

I’ll probably carry on reading some of the series but I think the FMC should kill the MMC and her family tbh

A little too dark for me

This book opened with a warning that this is going to be dark, that not every character is redeemable and that no one is a good guy. I FINISHED THIS BOOK IN 24 HOURS. I truly love this book. I think that the writing style is amazing, the way the plot runs is so smooth. The way the trauma is handled is beautiful to see. The characters are all interesting and so dimionsonal. Have book 2 on standby, you will need it.

Let's talk POV. I love a good first person POV which is what we get, from our MFC and our MMC. BUT we also get the MMC brother (our main villain) but it's in 3rd POV. I think this is because Michele is an unreliable narrator. If I was reading his first person pov I would not believe anything. He is so paranoid that I would not trust how he perceives things. It is sooo cool that Veronica Lancet is able to do this well and smoothly.

Not on my reread list

There was a lot of shock just for shock sake and it didn't work. I did stick in there to see what happened in the end but 5 books, I believe, for this little story is too much when not enough happens in each book. Also. It's trying too hard to be too dark.
