Books to read if you need to have a catharsis. It really affected me in a way I didn't really expect. I think it captures really well that sort of spiraling mentality with lies, depression, anxiety, and isolation. I got really attached to the main character. I think this is maybe a right time right place book in the way it got me but I hope others will enjoy too.

this has been the most accurate portrayal of an anxious mind that I’ve ever seen, read, experienced, etc — I guess its true that it might not be for everyone, since anxious people have individual operations goin’ on in these noggins of ours, but I think even if you aren’t *exactly* like gilda, which unfortunately and fortunately for me I am, you’ll still see yourself in her, somewhere, somehow. you might see yourself in her sibling, or her parents who want to sweep everything under the rug, or the priest who has an endless amount of forgiveness in him, or the love interest that is trying, or the high school friend who is protective and fun. everyone you could ever know is in this book, you’re in this book. its funny, its sad, its overthinking, its not thinking about the things you need to think about, its fixation, its lying, its being who you are. its a lot of things, all of them worthwhile. and it’s my new favorite read, definitely.

Gilda was a highly relatable main character for me and I don't know if that's a particularly good thing or not...

This was more of a character study, so those looking for a plot focused book may not like this as much, but I enjoyed getting a glimpse into Gilda's life and watching her character development. The little murder mystery type side plot was also a bit of fun.

The writing was really easy to read and I flew through this, and had a good time with it - as much as you can with an anxious, depressed MC, anyway. Though I don't have experience with all the mental illnesses depicted in the book, it seemed to be good representation and I related to the feelings of anxiety shown.

The book started off really strong but, as I went on reading, it lost me a bit. Maybe it's because we are firmly into the main character's headspace and I felt like it became a bit repetitive. Also, the final section
with the police investigation and Gilda's questioning and brief detention
felt to me a bit over-the-top, it went on and on and then was solved in the blink of an eye. The ending itself wasn't so bad
I admit that I teared up a bit when Gilda's left those voicemail messages
but it was still quite abrupt and an awful lot was left unaddressed.

I appreciated the hard-hitting representation of mental illness, just make sure to check the content warnings and look after your own mental well-being.
I also quite liked the humour and, as a raised-Catholic-turned-atheist, I cackled many times whenever Gilda pondered over bizarre Catholic rituals.

I need to reread this, and write the review that it deserves. Actually, I should write a whole essay about it.

Okay I'm actually obsessed with this book. Wow.

I have anxiety and I related to Gilda a lot while reading it (though she struggles with it way more than I do, and I have a much easier time asking for help). I loved the way this was written, in genuinely every way that could be interpreted. I'm amazed by how relatable and funny this was while also being so dark and existential. I was so drawn in and cared so much about what was going to happen to everyone involved.

Honestly I have absolutely zero complaints about this book. I mean...I wish maybe we'd gotten a glimpse of Eli at the end to see what happened there? But I understand why the author may have wanted to leave some things open-ended, and I'm satisfied with what we did get to see at the end. I can't recommend this book enough.
