at first i thought this was another trope about unhappy marriages; and while it is that, there’s also some great symbolism and threads to dissect along the way. didn’t love the massive tangent about social media algorithms but i get why it was part of the plot and writing style. overall would recommend as a great psychological study of marriages but not a book that picks up a lot of speed.

This is quite literally the best book I have ever read in my whole life. I have never loved a book so much and I feel like I could read it forever and find something new in it. Truly in shock, I never wanted this book to end. I can’t recommend this enough.

Yup.

I really wanted to like this and it was okay but for some reason not a 5 Stars

I absolutely loved this book.
Nathan Hill did an excellent job of turning Jack and Elizabeth inside out and fleshing out the mundane problems that strike a relationship. I saw glimpses of my own relationship in theirs, both terrifying and comforting. Life is weird and humans are weird and they’re simultaneously predictable and unpredictable. I think I despised Elizabeth and Jack for most of the book. If I wasn’t despised by them, I was mildly annoyed for sure. They were both “too real” in the sense that they had so many flaws that bothered me, but that’s only because they were so average and average people have flaws. Comforting.

This one touched on a lot of tender subjects for me, making it hard to read and also hard to stop reading.

one of the very few books I’ve ever allowed myself the grace to not finish. this book is exactly the type of book I would normally obsess over, but it was extremely tangential and at times quite arduous.
