I never thought I would give a book 1 star but here it is. I never wanted to finish a book so fast but also struggle to read it quickly at the same time. There were many things I did not like about this book but here are the highlights:
Book length: I saw a review that said it best: this was a burrito that should have been a taco. At least 350 pages were not needed in this book.
Lost character dialogue: This book is supposed to focus on a couple and their marriage, but most of the book did not, especially the first 300 pages. Most of this book was super long tangents on psychological topics or explaining things that did not matter to what was actually happening with the characters. When there was character dialogue it was brief, and a lot of the character focus was telling the story from the third person.
When a fiction book comes with a 7.5 page bibliography in the end, that should be a red flag. This felt like a forced read a college professor assigned and there were times I almost fell asleep reading this.
As an avid reader, I was grossly upset with this one. Please save your time for better fiction novels.

Recently I found myself emotionally affected by the idea of failed marriages and how sad it is that two people can just fall out of love. I saw this book as an opportunity for a bit of exposure therapy and was greatly comforted by the portrait of love it presents. Soulmates don't exist and not all marriages will make it but it makes a big difference just to try, to choose someone over and over again, day after day. The story is written in a stream-of-consciousness, run-on-sentence style that might turn some people off, but I liked it because it matches the voice in my head. It also has some pretty insufferable characters but there are tons people IRL are insufferable too. I didn't mind the lengthy sections about child psychology and social media algorithms because it felt current and connected the story to real world phenomena. The whole thing was brilliantly done.
TL;DR: I see why some people didn't love it but I did.
