It was fine. My friend says the TED talk is an adequate substitute for the book. I’ll have to watch the talk to compare, because I’ve mostly forgotten the book already, after only about a month.

If you have an iota of common sense, you can probably guess much of what Celeste Headlee recommends in We Need to Talk: Listen more and talk less. She does elaborate on this point, telling us not to multitask, don't repeat yourself, don't pontificate, be brief, etc. These are all important points, as is the overall premise that conversation skills are important. I'm just not sure there is enough here to fill a whole book. Watch the TED talk and see what you think.

Reread after one year. Felt like I need a few conversation tips. Beautiful how we can always learn more about how to connect with people. This book is full of great advice that I did not grasp as much when I read it for the first time. Now I want to actively try to improve in more of the mentioned areas, and I am looking forward to a long way of challenges and growth ahead :)

Review from 2022 (three stars):
I always used to think I am a good listener and sometimes have very good conversations.
But seems I was wrong, and I got a lot to learn. Sorry to all the people I bored or did not fully appreciate.
Let's hope I get better. This book was a great start.

I took this book as a personal affront. I mean, every bad thing in it I do. It has taken years of therapy to realize that I do it all, but I do. This book was helpful, and had really good ideas, but pretty much just kept pounding into my head what I bad conversationalist I am. Hopefully I can get better.

I have seen TED talk by Celeste and this book very much follows the points presented in her TED talk.
Great guide on how to have difficult conversations! I am keeping this book as a reference in my office library!
