An extra 0.25 for Glinda's female soldiers. Like, why did no one tell me about them !?!?

Having grown up with the film, and only recently been made aware that there was actually a novel, I was eager to find a copy of The Wizard of Oz and see how it matched up to my childhood memories. I was impressed, too. There's so much more detail in the book, which was a pleasant surprise. Finding out more about the Scarecrow, Tin man and the Flying Monkeys made my day. And the narrative was certainly easier to read, and made a whole lot more sense than the film, with the additional scenes and explanations. I only wish I'd read the book when I was little.

The book is very similar to the film and the play I was in as a child except for the ending which is much longer.
As an adult, the only thing I’m not keen on is the concept of a good witch. It might lead a person to get into witchcraft thinking that it’s okay as long as you use it for good. In my opinion, the source of power matters as much as what you do with it.
However, as a child I only saw it as a fairy story, and most children would feel the same.
