I liked it better after the mystery elements picked up.

NO: pacing and plotting issues. Characters unrealistic. Plot twist about pregnancy pact came out of nowhere and wasn't believable. Protagonist likeable enough. Lillian, the grandmother, was the best character and I would rather have seen more interactions between her and Sawyer. The secrets at the end of the beginning chapters were distracting, and the images didn't match the images described in the book. The concept of anonymous secrets is out of touch with today's teens and was trendy 15 years ago. Inter-cutting the story with short, awkward chapters from the clueless police officer's pov really interrupted the flow of the plot and made the book a labor to read.

Honestly this was fun. It was easy to read, fast paced and had enough mystery and intrigue that made it easy to swallow in like 4 hours. I really liked the high society drama and the backstabbing

I went on a bit (or a lot) of a Jennifer Lynn Barnes binge last year, finishing two of her series.
Sawyer Taft isn't sure how she will pay for college. But when her estranged grandmother comes by with a proposition. If she participates in a debutante season, her grandmother will pay for college! This also gives Sawyer the opportunity to maybe figure out who her mystery father might be. What she doesn't expect is all the secrets, deception, and lies involved in all those around!
This one, was definitely not as good as the other two I read last year (The Inheritance Game and The Naturals). It still has some of the same themes of friendships, mysteries to solve, and precarious scenarios. I do think the audiobook narrator's southern accent was lacking/caricature-ish (and trying to do different people's voices in different southern accents), which I do think turned me off. Still an interesting story and I'll definitely read the next one.

I absolutely loved this one! It was such a fun read with a fun setting and even more fun characters. Sawyer did suffer a little from the "I'm not like other girls" trope and her pointing it out was kind of repetitive, but nonetheless she was an enjoyable main character. The plot was winding and fun, and while I touched on some of the twists, I didn't fully guess any of them. I didn't know this was going to be a series but I am so glad that it is! I'm hoping for more Lillian in the sequel, as I felt that she was slightly lacking in this one. Either way, I'm dying for more!
