Office supplies, awkward coworkers, and a missing person investigation... when office drama meets obsession, things get messy fast. 🐢
Freida McFadden turns the fluorescent-lit world of cubicles into a stage of secrets, paranoia, and obsession. Dawn and Natalie's dueling perspectives are sharp enough to hold attention, and the rapid fire chapters keep the pace humming. It's a workplace thriller with bite, and McFadden knows how to bait the book.
But here's the rub: Dawn's fixation with turtles. Mentioned once? Quirky. Mentioned a dozen times? Downright exhausting. It took me out of the story more than it deepened it. The final stretch is more grounded than some of her trademark conclusions, though I still found myself questioning certain pieces once the dust settled some.
It's the literary version of binge-watching a show you love to roll your eyes at. Too invested to change the channel, curious for what's next.
Even so, the compulsive readability is there, and McFadden has a way of making me question everyone, every motive, every word. It's not her strongest narrative, but it's a solid reminder why she remains a go-to when I want a quick but suspenseful binge.
Freida McFadden: equal parts binge and brain scramble. She got me again... Just not with the turtles.

2.5 rounded down. Book was okay as I found myself skimming through parts. The characters were annoying.

It was ok, a little disappointing compared to the other FM books I've read!
