Alicia works for King (Hero from books 1), she is a baddass and is stand offish towards everyone given her past. When she was younger, she was raised in this brain washing type environment, where they are trained to be assassins. When she gets out/makes her escape, King's family is there for her and so they are like her found family.
Given her upbringing, Alicia is constantly trying to take down sex trafficking, and one night she going deep under cover, she finds this woman in one of these rings, that she can't help but feel like she knows. Desperate to get to the bottom of this, Alicia and Cree pair up, since he works in the police department, he has access to things she does not.
I really loved the suspense of this, constantly being on your toes and wondering what's next.

• Cree, Ace, & Lauren... triple yikes
• There were hella people to remember in book 3 and I was confused as hell but the suspense was a fun ride
• Book 3 was definitely a movie!
• No "I love you?" - It's giving "HFN"
• I really wanted more for Ace. I wanted her to have something of her own bc she sacrificed SO MUCH only to have to share everything in her life with someone else. Her man, her sister, her friends, ugh.
• Asha and King saved this series for me

All around FANTASTIC book!! Romantic suspense is my favorite sub genre so this had all the good stuff. It’s been a while since I’ve read one of her books and I definitely liked this one more. Stellar.

I love romantic suspense and this is how its done! CCJ asks readers in the beginning of the book to set aside who you think Ace and Cree are and that's great advice. That wrinkle with Loren was handled so beautifully. Loved that she addressed the issue head on, like a grown woman and was so inclusive of Ace, especially after we learned what had been taken from her.
It's too hard for me to write this without giving anything away and I would hate to ruin someone else's enjoyment. So, I'm just gonna say Read This Book! It is sooo good!

I read this series all types of wrong lmaoo but still enjoyed nonetheless!! Going back to actually see the moments from Alicia and Cree before they became a couple was so entertaining! I loved watching them finally give into their feelings and Alicia finally put herself out there ! This book has such a good storyline that will keep you addicted from start to finish. This series is a fun change from ccjs other romance books and definitely think y’all should give it a try

In Ante Up and especially in Deuces Wild Ace reminded me so much of a mix of Natasha from The Avengers movies and Maze from the show Lucifer.
