Piper Rayne does it again in the second book of The Nest series! This one’s an emotional, second-chance romance that brings childhood friends and college sweethearts Henry and Jade back together in their hometown.
The story is packed with fun banter, relatable characters, and plenty of heart. You’ll recognize some familiar faces from Mr. Heartbreaker (if you’ve read it), plus a few new ones who bring lots of charm and surprises. It’s a sweet, small-town romance with just the right mix of humor, twists, and feel-good moments. Perfect for anyone who loves a good love story about finding your way back to each other!
Thanks to Valentine PR for the ARC! I've now gone back and added more Piper Rayne to my TBR!

When Jade came back to Chicago, she didn’t want to get back on Henry’s orbit, but she forgot they have much less than six degrees of separation and were bound to meet sooner rather than later. When that meeting happens within her first week in town and Henry is clear about wanting back into her life, Jade will have to decide once and for all if life on the road is better than settling down in her hometown.
This story is just something else. For one I love second chances and single dads, but Henry and Jade is a story that was in the making since we first read about them in Smitten by the Best Man aka Manic Monday when the series was first launched. Everyone fell in love with those kids the same way people are falling in love with Bodhi as I write this.
I really liked grown up Henry and Jade and I loved how both of them brought valid concerns about their relationship, past and present, to the proverbial table. But the cherry on top is Bodhi, his relationship with his dad’s teammates and the twist the ladies gave to their voices on this book.
Though I really liked this book, there were things that didn’t come across as expected and others I felt out of place, but that’s a personal opinion and it doesn’t take from the story.
As for the audio, it’s another masterful full cast, which I loved and I have to say I was highly impressed with the performances, especially Jade’s which came across as sassy as she was written and Bodhi which enthusiasm was perfectly portrayed. Whether you want to read or listen, Mr. Broody is meant to touch your heart and make you fall in love all over again.

I really really enjoyed this high school sweethearts, second chance, single dad story. It was full of raw emotions, forgiveness, acceptance, and lots of pining.
Henry & Jade are made for each other.
Their history is full of love & support, while their future seems to only embody more of that, but stronger.
Bodhi is a wonderful little 6 year old. He's funny, mischievous, and super sweet.
I liked the way Jade respected the single dad status that Henry held. She put Bodhi before herself a lot. She was careful to make sure she didn't overstep either. The way Bodhi got attached to her was adorable.
This story was really good overall. I do have a few issues with the audiobook, though.
I wish the flashbacks were clearly advised - Like *10 years ago* or something. A lot of the flashbacks I didn't know were one until too late & had to rewind.
I also did not appreciate coming off of a super smutty scene and thrown into the 6 y/o child's POV. That was a super buzzkill. I want his POV, I love this trend of giving kids a POV, but maybe we should put some space between some intimate scenes & the kiddo.
This would have been a 4⭐️ read, but i didn't like the buzz kill.

This is the second book in The Nest series, focusing on hockey players who live above a bar that’s surrounded by a gate to keep the fan girls out. I read and absolutely loved the first book in this series and I expected to love this one too because it featured Henry and his son Bodhi. Bodhi was mentioned a great deal in book 1 because he got attached to the MFC and wanted to share her with Rowan. Now in this book we have Henry and Jade who have known each other a long time and who were in love and dating all through high school and college but after Henry was drafted things went sour. I must admit I just didn’t like Jade. At times she would redeem herself and then do something stupid. Henry was so in love with her that he has basically waited 8 years for her to return to him. He hasn’t been celibate but he hasn’t gotten into any long involved relationships. Henry does just about everything to get her to be his. I’m a sucker for a man who wears his heart on his sleeve but, I get annoyed at woman who don’t know when they have a good thing. This was a great story, very enjoyable and I certainly looking forward to the other men of the nest falling in love and getting their HEA. Just wanted to mention I’m noticing a trend in books where the children are getting their own chapters and expressing their own POV and I think it’s fabulous. As a reader I want to know what all my main characters are thinking and feeling and this includes their children.
This might be my new favorite series to listen to. The audiobooks are so good with a consistent full cast that it feels like jumping back into your favorite tv show. These characters are so fun & this story is sweet, heartwarming & yes spicy (but this is a second chance romance so you'll have to wait a bit for it to hit).

This story is a perfect balance of a slow burn & angst, seeing these two reconnect & try to figure out how to make a relationship work with who they are today. It's just a beautiful love story that has some very relatable emotional topics. Jade left to go find herself & comes back still a bit lost. Henry is now a dad & needs to prioritize Bodhi but does that mean he has to sacrifice his happiness? The dialogue is witty, the story flows nicely, the found family aspect with the rest of the team is perfect. We also get a few chapters from Bodhi's POV which are fantastic. This story is so satisfying & just an overall good time.

This was the most adorable, sweetest, slightly angsty, beautiful second chance love story. I COULD NOT stop reading it.
Henry and Jade’s story had me hooked honestly from meeting Henry in book one. Then I started reading it and like I said, I couldn’t stop reading it. I loved everything about their story, from the tweety meet cute set up, to the flash backs, and the way they just cannot seem to stay away from each other. Also, Bodhi. Sweet, sneaky, hilarious Bodi. Honestly he was amazing and I am already requesting that we get a next generation story of the Nest with Bodhi because I need it.
I laughed, squealed with excitement, teared up, had to fan my face, and blushed - basically all the things you want to do while reading your book. I cannot recommend this enough and I am very impatiently waiting on book 3.

- Single father
- Second chance
- Hockey romance
- Friends to lovers to nothing
- Pining
- Found family
I absolutely LOVED this book! I am such a fan of second chance romances and this one delivered big time with all of the pining and flashbacks and PINING! I just could not put this down!
We met MMC Henry in the previous book, Mr Heartbreaker. He is a single father that keeps to himself. We knew he was longing for the one that got away and I, for one, couldn't wait for this story!
Jade and Henry had been inseperable from the time they were 7 until right after college. They were each other's first in everything. Jade would have followed Henry anywhere his hockey career took him, but he wanted to make sure she saw the world and lived out her dreams...so he sent her away. He didn't realize that she wouldn't come back for 8 years.
Now that Jade is back, temporarily, Henry realizes he has a second chance to show Jade that what they had deserves another try. But their own feelings of inadequacy make the trip to true love a bumpy one.
Written in triple POV, the differing perspectives made this book even more special. I sighed, stomped my feet and sometimes yelled. I can't wait to read the books for Conor and Tweetie!!
