This book was very interesting. I like Greco-Roman myths but I'm so used the myths using the Greek names and so the Roman names being used threw me off a bit. Overall, I loved the stories but remember, myths tend to have lots of triggers so please make sure you know what to expect if you read it!

i mean come on it's metamorphoses, it's gotta be 5 stars!!!
so many different stories and it's impressive how ovid brings them all together across such a big timeframe.
at times there were lots of names and places and a few parts where i skimmed because it felt like unnecessary detail, but that was okay.
two passages really stuck with me though:
Apollo and Hyacinthus
"I wish that I might give my life in exchange for yours, as you so well deserve, or die along with you! But, since I am bound by the laws of fate, that cannot be. Still you will always be with me, your name constantly upon my lips,
never forgotten. When I strike the chords of my lyre, and when I sing, my songs and music will tell of you. You will be changed into a new kind of flower and will show markings that imitate my sobs."
the final paragraph
"My work is complete: a work which neither Jove's anger, nor fire nor sword shall destroy, nor yet the gnawing tooth of time. That day which has power over nothing but my body may, when it pleases, put an end to my uncertain span of years. Yet with my better part I shall soar, undying, far above the stars, and my name will be im-perishable. Wherever Roman power extends over the lands Rome has subdued, people will read my verse. If there be any truth in poets' prophecies, I shall live to all eternity, immortalized by fame."
