I loved this book so much. The characters were very diverse in so many ways (race, sexuality, religion and class being the main ones). And the book managed to bring up societal issues in a really good way. I also liked the plot twists and how genuinely unpredictable the whole book was.
AND THE ENDING OMG it was perfect. The way it was very much a happy ending but not at all the way you'd expect. I was so happy that Cara ended up with Dell but still worked in Ash.

Awesome book, with great ideas, brilliant world-building and thrilling plot.
I only wished for more Dell and had hoped to see her more, as i thought she was a great character with a glorious relationship to Cara. But there were also so many other fascinating characters that made the story so rich.
In the end, the world-building is what made this story so good.

I devoured The Space Between Worlds in less than a week (which is impressive for me), and absolutely loved it!

This is a story about travel between parallel universes, class stratification, empire (both in the corporate sense and the more traditional), family, identity, morality, death, and the struggle to survive. The protagonist is a queer woman of colour. It is a masterfully executed debut novel, and I cannot wait to read whatever Micaiah Johnson publishes next.

CW for abusive relationships (I can’t recall any sexual assault but there may be some implied).
