I can't think of another comic series that is as much of a new-story sequel as it is an immediate continuation of its initial story. I supremely dig it, as it has all the curious heart and wicked adventure of Descender, but from a lovely new angle. I like that there's a young character of optimism surrounded by a smattering of logical adults who have reason to be cynical. Sometimes, the things-will-work-out crowd is right; sometimes, the things-will-get-worse crowd is right. It's ups and downs within a structured, well-handled narrative arc, and I never quite know what's coming next.
I love this series so much! The art is breathtaking and the story just keeps getting more and more complex.
Without spoiling anything, all I can say is that there are real tears in my eyes as I finish this.
Not as great as the first volume but as a whole I like this series/world even more than Descender.

A great volume, with a lot of time taken to highlight the backstories to some new characters like Mother, and the origins of her power/coven. And also, jumping back to see what characters like Telsa were getting up to after the second descender attack and subsequent take over of the galaxy by Mother and the reintroduction of magic and mythical creatures. Can’t wait to see where the series takes them all next, and the ending with Driller making a come back, has got me hooked for volume 3, which is sadly coming out next year. Lastly, Andy and Effies reunion was something I was not prepared for, and something I don’t think I’ll ever get over.
