An Unlikely Alliance, part of the K-9 Companions series, is a delightful book that will draw readers in from the first page. Jalissa Tucker and her nemesis, Jeremy Rider, must work together in order to save the animal shelter and the SAFE mentorship program. The mayor decides to make major cuts to the budget, and these two organizations are on the chopping block. Desperate to save both programs, Jalissa and Jeremy must work together to raise enough money to keep the programs that they both love. Despite the fact that Jalissa does not like or trust Jeremy, she begins to realize that maybe he isn’t as bad as she once thought he was. However, as their friendship deepens, secrets come to light that threaten to destroy everything. I liked this faith filled book, with the theme of forgiveness at the heart of it. I was hoping that the characters would have a bit more depth. At times, their intense dislike for each other was distracting. However, readers will find that An Unlikely Alliance is a sweet story filled with faith, hope, love, and a few adorable animals! I was given an ARC of this book by the publisher. So good! I read the first book in the series An Unlikely Proposal and it was excellent. This book is written equally as well. The romance is written superlatively - it's swoonworthy! I love all of the characters - they are written like people I know and I so enjoy it when characters are relatable. The romance isn't forced and flows naturally which I also adore in a story. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes so this book just has all the feels for me. Toni Shiloh is a phenomenal writer and she did it again with this book -
If you are looking for a sweet, clean romance to lift your spirits, look no further. This is part of a series of “Love inspired inspirational romances”, but they are all stand-alone titles.
An Unlikely Alliance features Jalissa Tucker, a woman with severe anxiety, and her service dog Flo. Jalissa works at the town animal shelter and finds out that her program, along with the teen SAFE program are going to be cut from the town’s budget due to lack of funding unless she and her arch nemesis, Jeremy Rider, can figure out a way to fundraise the needed money. The death of Jalissa’s father when she was younger and the abandonment by Jeremy’s father have led to some issues for both that are keeping them from letting others in to their lives. Maybe the fundraiser can mend some past wounds and bring these two together.
Thank you to Toni Shiloh for a gifted copy of the book. No review was required.

Liked the two charities in this book: anti bullying for teens and a no kill animal shelter. I recommend reading An Unlikely Proposal first :)
Deep character journeys sprinkled with banter, chemistry, and adorable pets. The heroine's and hero's struggles were a little hard to read because my heart sincerely hurts for them and every real person who has walked a similar road. Characters are endearing and realistic. Love the small town charm and hope to return to this delightful story world soon!

I love a good enemies to lovers romance that includes dogs too. An unlikely alliance follows Jalissa and Jeremy who do not get along . The two nemesis are forced to work together when the mayor requests they do to save their respective programs. What could possibly go wrong? I enjoyed this book that also touched on trauma, grief and mental health . The plot is brilliant, the characters well developed and the dogs are just adorable.

An Unlikely Alliance is the first of Toni Shiloh’s Harlequin LoveInspired books I’ve read, and while it’s perfectly fine, I think I just wasn’t really in the mood for it. There are some good points, however, which are worthy of praise.
Jalissa is a sympathetic lead, and I really love her relationship with her emotional support dog, who helps her cope with her anxiety. Her dedication to the local animal shelter also really spoke to me, as a dog lover myself. And for all my quibbles about the romance, I do get the idea of it, with both of them having roles giving back to their community and bonding over that.
But I found the romance very lacking from the get-go, as it’s one of those “we hate each other for no reason” sort of stories. I didn’t feel like she and Rider had much but their pre-judgments of each other to justify the animosity, and it culminated in a weak transition to love.
While I generally found this book pretty tepid, I can see why it worked for other people. If you enjoy category-length romance with an emphasis on shared Christian faith and community, you might like this one.
