Joe Ide's 2nd IQ novel has gotten some great reviews but it didn't do much for me. The first in the series was a fresh and inventive. This one is much less so. Like IQ there are two interweaving plots. Unlike IQ, one of the plots is nothing more than a out of the box thriller runaround. The other is an actual mystery but because of its confusing flashback structure and aimless plotting it's really just marking time until Isaiah solves it all in a absurd leap of reasoning in the last few pages. I hope Righteous is just the series going through growing pains. IQ was quite good and the series has potential.

I am a fan of this series. I really enjoyed the first book and this one was good I just had a hard time with all the storylines.

This one just jumped around a lot from past to future and the different perspectives. On audiobook it was a little difficult just to keep straight where in the story we were.

Overall I enjoy the alignment to Sherlock Holmes but much more modern.

West Coast US gumshoe tale but different. Hero is intelligent and introspective and has his home in the ‘hood’. Dialogue is dark and funny and the interaction of main protagonists is entertaining if not totally convincing. Too many ingredients in the mix perhaps. 4 stars for novelty factor and humour.

I loved the first book in the series, but Righteous didn’t impress me. It felt too disparate, with too many flat, one-dimensional characters and a wandering, far-fetched plot.

The only reason I didn't like this one as much as the first is because the timeline changes were harder to follow in this one.

It was great to end the year with a good one. IQ is back, and he's angry, vengeful and every bit as much of a crime-solving genius as Sherlock Holmes. Ide gives us deep-city LA and Las Vegas life with Mexican gangs facing off with Chinese gangs, human trafficking, drug debts and a hero who is as conflicted as he is fearless. This looks like the beginning of a great ride.
