My God, this book! Definitely one of the best fantasy books I've read in a long time. Can't wait for the second one! I'll definitely be checking other stuff by this author.

Read this on Merphy Napier's recommendation and wasn't disappointed.

My favourite, favourite thing about this book are the well fleshed out characters: each and every one of our main protagonists is so unique and interesting, I'd read a book on each of their backstories. One of my favourites is Harod, he holds a special place in my heart.
It was heart-wrenching, exciting, breathless, and funny! It's been so long since I read a fantasy that was actually funny!

SpoilerEven though Cade's death hurt my heart, it was Orica's death and Harod's crying over her body and repeating 'I love you' over and over again that broke my heart in two. I sobbed.

I can't wait to re-read this one.

First 5 star book of the year. While it starts of a little formulaic, this book soars near the end after the adventure you have had with all the characters. The emotional ending of the last 100 pages is what solidifed this for me. Even without a sequel, it ends in a satisfying way that emotionally pays off well.
