Very dark and gritty novel. Felt heart palpitations for most of this book.
The author does a really solid job in weaving Spanglish when it makes the most sense. I thought it enhanced the book significantly. If you aren’t familiar with Spanish, it might be a little difficult at times.

Wow. Just wow. This book had me hooked from the beginning. It's like nothing I've ever read before. It's a mix of so many different genres and elements that make a captivating story: mourning the loss of a loved one, heartbreak from a broken relationship, questionable to bad to even worse decisions and the consequences of those, gangster sh*t, border culture, capitalism, the crushing weight of poverty, racism, religion, horror, action and adventure. This is a very f*cked up story that is told so beautifully and poetically that you don't know whether to cower in fear over what you just read or aggressively highlight passages that put words to emotions and cultural/political/societal/religious beliefs you've always felt with your whole soul, but never expressed in words. Major trigger warnings for this book, but you won't regret reading it. Iglesias is now (another) favorite author.

It's a good action book that keeps the plot going. Nothing fantastic in my honest opinion, but not every book needs to be! I'd still recommend if the summary tantalizes you, as it was a very well written book!
