DID NOT FINISH: 11%

Major slog, I started it and gave  some other parts later on a skim. A lot of it would have benefited from some aggressive editing.

The characters also didn’t feel realistic to me, and without the existing connection/interest from knowing the story already I just didn’t care about getting to know these characters.

The universe is interesting, but instead of real world building there was a lot of clunky exposition and reliance on existing IP (ex: LOTR) to make jokes instead of being funny on its own.

Oh my god, this book. If you’re a fan of the Hell’s Belles TikTok series, then this is going to give you all the lore-building glee of fandom. If you’re not a fan of it yet, read this then go watch and you will be. I’ve fallen more in love with all of the characters, laughed and cried with them and I am nowhere near patient enough to wait for the next book.

I wanted to love this, because the plot and ideas were so original and 'new', and as someone who was 'there' for it, I got a great buzz off the initial CorpseHusband like introduction of Bel,  but I kinda struggled with this one.
And I hate that, because it wasn't unejoyable, it was just long and I found my (admittedly, very easily distracted) mind wandering often. I think this may be one I would have been better off having as an audiobook to keep said wandering mind more engaged.

I'll give the next one a go, which I imagine will focus on
Penny ? Is this even a spoiler considering the timing of her introduction.

This book swept me off my feet and straight into the afterlife—in the absolute best way. I went in expecting a dark, high-stakes romantasy, but For Whom the Belle Tolls by Jaysea Lynn surprised me with something even better: a cozy fantasy full of warmth, wit, and emotional depth. Despite being a prequel to the Hell’s Bells TikTok series (which I had never heard of before), this book completely stands on its own. I first discovered it during a Book Talk with Jaysea Lynn and Stacey McEwan, and I’m so glad I did—because this story has officially carved out a permanent place in my heart.

The premise? Pure brilliance. A mortal soul creating a “Hellp Desk” in the underworld? It's the kind of dark, satirical workplace fantasy I didn’t know I was missing. Anyone who's ever worked in customer service will find themselves simultaneously laughing and crying at the painfully accurate chaos. Lily’s sass, sarcasm, and unfiltered exhaustion are endlessly relatable—but beneath it all, she radiates kindness, resilience, and the quiet courage to care. “You’re not temporary” isn’t just a line—it’s a life-affirming reminder.

At the heart of the story is Lily and Bel. Their relationship is a slow burn in the best way—rooted in friendship, mutual respect, and emotional healing. It’s not just about sparks (though they’re definitely there); it’s about two souls learning to trust and see themselves through each other’s eyes. The tenderness, the loyalty, the choosing each other? It’s a romance that feels real and earned.

Jaysea Lynn crafts a world that’s impossibly vibrant for a place filled with the souls of the dead and demons. The humor is razor-sharp, the banter had me howling, and the side characters are unforgettable. Sharkie? An immediate favorite. And the supporting cast, with all their quirks and fierce loyalty, felt like the kind of ride-or-die chosen family you never want to leave.

And that ending? Perfection. Hopeful, healing, and beautifully wrapped—but with just enough tease in the bonus epilogue to make me desperate for the next book. If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, and believe in second chances (even in the afterlife), this is your sign.

The premise and world building of the book was so interesting but wasn't explored as much as I had hoped. Made for a funny read but felt that the story was done around about the 500 page mark and seemed to drag from there. Lily was an interesting character but felt a bit like a Mary-sue towards the end
