Whew. This was a grueling journey. I read all these back-to-back. The development of their relationship takes a bit, the story carries on while they figure it out. I liked the ending, but I wish we could have seen more of the "after" portion, where they are not on the run and ruling together.

laurent the character ever. i loved this. i cried i laughed i gasped at the politics of it all. although i have my qualms with some of the world building at play, this series is really a masterclass at enemies to lovers. this finale is only so sweet because the first book is so ugly

This was phenomenal. The romance- a true enemies to lovers and a slow burn. The intellectual chess pieces, the political intrigue. Everything, I’m completely obsessed with this trilogy.

This was a great conclusion to the series. The revelations made so much sense and the resolution was good. I wanted some people’s to be worse though. Laurent grew on me and I officially like him. I just wish there was an epilogue, this story really needed one. I do think there are short stories that came out later tho, but you shouldn’t have to buy short stories to get an epilogue, in my opinion.

This trilogy really gripped me from start to finish, although there were persistent issues that bothered me. While I did have a lot of reservations about the way the author chose to depict sexual slavery in the first book, a lot of those issues were not present in the latter books. I still question the degree to which the existence of women is erased in this series; while there were a handful more female characters who appeared, their appearances were brief, few of them were named, they had very little actual dialogue and none of them with one another. The ending also felt very rushed to me, as if the author couldn't be bothered to actually grapple with some of the heavier issues she was teasing throughout the trilogy
(namely, Damen declaring that he will end slavery without any discussion of the challenges of doing so, and Laurent never unpacking his experience being molested by his uncle after Damen learns of it).
