Some nice artwork by [a:Frederik Peeters|658304|Frederik Peeters|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1241621054p2/658304.jpg] and a story from [a:Pierre Oscar Levy|5447035|Pierre Oscar Lévy|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1446474690p2/5447035.jpg] that cleverly takes its odd subject matter & inspects it from almost every possible angle.

There were two pages that confused me (even after going back and skimming through the entire story—Jose, the hotelier's son, running through a field getting shot at. It didn't seem to have any explanation–not that most of the story did, but it felt an odd diversion with no real payoff...

In my attempts to find an answer, I found out that M Night Shyamalan bought the rights to Sandcastle and his next movie appears to be an adaptation of it (or at least inspired by it), so that is a happy accident that I sort of spoiled for myself what his next movie is about.

3.5 i think but i’ll round it to 4 starts. it would’ve been higher if it wasn’t for all the nudity involving technical children and the fact that the children are kinda sex-obsessed. i liked the concept a lot but i still would’ve liked some answers to several things.

A short and interesting comic that just didn't work for me. There was a lot about this that I really liked. And I did like the ending. I thought the characters exploring mortality and just the fable feel to the story was great.

But the children characters did not work for me at all. I found them to be very uncomfortable and confusing most of the time.

Read in preparation to consume (with skepticism) M. Night Shyamalan's latest. While the themes were spot on, artwork were brilliant and the ending was brutal, I was a little disturbed by the nudity, xenophobia and sexual content involving children in this story and question it's inclusion, seeing as it added nothing to this story about impending death and human fear of aging. Here's hoping that gets left on the cutting room floor.

A story about three families who find the body of a young woman on the beach. They encounter a young man from Algeria in the area who seems to be acting suspiciously. However, they slowly realise that there is much more going on than appears at first glance.

This is a beautiful graphic novel with an interesting twist. The characters are really well developed and the artwork is beautiful and detailed. I read this in one sitting as the story is extremely gripping. I found it a little frustrating that so many questions are raised in the book without any answers given.. Despite this, I found the book very enjoyable.

I can see why M Night turned this into a movie. Creepy concept, but not enough to be a movie. Someone else put it best; reminds me more of an episode of Twilight Zone.

An assortment of people visit a secluded beach, only to find they cannot leave, as well as some other weirdnesses. An engrossing little tale - the mystery elements really take a back seat to the protrayal of how a disparate group of people cope in a crisis - as such it is of a similar genre to entertainments such as Lost and I'm sure many others. To be honest, I would rather the mystery had been emphasised a little more, shifting it more toward Picnic At Hanging Rock territory. As it is, I found it a touch mundane and ultimately a bit unsatisfying. Worth a reread though, and I like Peeters' art, so I'll push it up to a 4.
