I’m LOVING Nisha Sharma’s Shakespeare-inspired series. I found this book an even faster read than Dating Dr. Dil. Without giving too much away, I was surprised that Benjamin was into the specific form of intimacy that was discussed! When he brought out the
ropes I said, “WAIT WHAT?!”
However, I found the discussion of that typically being denoted as “white people shit” incredibly necessary! Bobbi is an incredibly likable FMC and I connected with her on the struggle to ask for help. I wasn’t as big of a fan of Benjamin as a MMC (I didn’t connect as much with his personality and thought processes) however, I thought he made some incredibly romantic gestures (had me kicking my feet and giggling).  My favorite scene in the whole book had to be
when the wedding party discover that Bindu’s mother in law (I’m blanking on her name) is the shaadi saboteur. There were tears coming out of my eyes!! I wasn’t laughing so hard!

The more I think about it, the less worked for me. I really liked the individual characters (and the larger social world is so fun) but their relationship/emotional development felt pretty random. And there was SO MUCH clunky explanatory dialogue. Every chapter more heavy handed expositional dialogue that half the time wasn’t even necessary. And the dialogue itself was so dull half the time, even though the characters were fun. I don’t remember finding the prose to be such a slog in the first one.

I did like the wedding planning setting and the whole sabotage aspect - it added plot interest and momentum. But otherwise, disappointed in this one.

i wish nisha sharma didn't fall into the trap i feel like a lot of desi romance authors fall into where they over-explain things about our culture. this, with the fact that i felt a lot of the character development was lackluster and the diversity felt so forced, i just could not get into it! for some reason the writing felt worse than dating dr. dil??
