This series continues to grow on me. I really enjoy Kate and Curren's interactions. I hope it doesn't STAY like this because having them fight constantly about keeping each other safe is going to get old (I'm looking at you Eve Dallas and Roarke), but I do like it for now, at the beginning of their relationship when they're still feeling things out.
The latest addition to the Kate Daniels series, Magic Slays is by far the funniest. The added humor really improved my impression of the relationships, especially Kate and Andrea. I don't mean that the book is full of slapstick slipping-on-banana-peel humor, but the kind of comfortable joking between friends that is missing in the earlier books.
This book could have been longer. Towards the end of the book, they are either hanging out cooking each other meals and trying on formal wear, or they're racing around frantically killing things after mobilizing a ginormous army. It went back and forth too much for my comfort. By the time of the big battle, I couldn't get worked up anymore. There were also several new groups that would have benefited from a more thorough introduction.
On the upside, the Ilona Andrews writing team managed to add new depth to their world, give us interesting new characters, concoct a new doomsday scenario, as well as set up further story-lines for future books. I'm happy.

I love this series! I can't wait for [b:Untitled|11544421|Untitled (Kate Daniels, #6)|Ilona Andrews|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nocover/60x80.png|16484134]!! I'm really hoping to see more of Derek and Ascanio in the next book :)
I undoubtedly love this series but at some point it's inevitable that you will get tired of the same scenarios. I may be to that point. I plan on continuing but I think I need a break. And I've read reviews for the next one and I'm not looking forward to witnessing the Curran/Kate drama.

With each next book, I just want to keep reading more... and more.
Maybe it doesn't deserve three stars, it probably deserves more, I am not sure if it deserves four either. The writing in general has progressively gotten better throughout the series but I struggle with such long breaks (and so many other books) in between releases to remember what is going on. Certainly that isn't the fault of the authors' ability, it just reflects itself in my feeling on the book. By about half way through I felt settled and really engaged. Curran and Kate's love story (though only a mild subplot) feels genuine compared to most romance novels. And while I didn't understand all the bashing on humans for killing each other when all the "non-humans" killed each other all the time for dominance and such, the plot answered some questions we had on Kate's background and set up the next book nicely.
Ok, I’m just going to stop myself from reading the next book because I am seriously addicted and really need to get uni work done since term has finally started again.
Another really great book, loved that we got more Julie, still needed more Derek, and I do like that Andrews isn’t afraid to endanger her characters and I can see the author upping the stakes even more in later instalments. I basically lived for the moments with Kate and Curran together and I do like their dynamic - it’s not perfect but I’m tired of perfect romance anyway so that works for me. I would have liked to have seen more on the overarching plot concerning Roland and Hugh, it did begin to develop but it still wasn’t enough which made the main plot of this one a slight disappointment because I failed to see its relevance and importance in light of this greater threat which hasn’t been fully explained yet.
Still a 4-4.5, I don’t give out 5 stars much now because it’s got to be something really incredible, but if the series continues in this vein I have no doubts there’ll be a 5 star or two down the line.

Wow, this book was the perfect start to the second half of the Kate Daniels series! This book had the perfect combination of character development and a kick ass plot. I was concerned I wouldn’t like Curran and Kate as much now that they’re together, but their relationship is still as complex and filled with funny banter as before. I loved how dark and complex the arc was for this book, and the way it set up and had some surprises for the big series wide plot points. I am so hyped to continue on and see how all these characters that I love so much evolve! Actual rating: 5/5 ⭐️
