Not very well suited for audiobook, the narrator is amazing but I can’t keep the characters straight

Pratchett is back on form with another installment of the Discworld - I've been reading these in release order and I think this is contending to be my favourite of the stories so far. As far as fantasy and comedy goes, it's got everything. Dragon filled skies, Laurel and Hardy style dynamics, smooth character development, dramatic twists and an orangutan "ooook". After a bit of a low point with the previous book 'Pyramids' (personally wasn't fond of it) I was skeptical of continuing my journey. I'm glad i did. Of all the books so far I couldn't help but feel this would make an excellent stand alone live action movie. Maybe some day. If you're looking to get into Pratchetts works but don't want the commitment of reading them all. 'Guards! Guards!' Is an absolute MUST!
This book really gripped me right from the start and had me laughing out loud so much. Many times I did not want to put it down, but the twists in it I was not expecting and the characters were so well developed and also so lovable, could not get enough of Errol, he was so cute and the Librarian just his short words the narrator of the audiobook did his voice so well that many times I was just laughing because of how funny the phrases were narrated by him.

As my first foray into discworld, i ended up enjoying this quite a lot. It definitely dragged in places, but the last 100 or so pages kept me very engaged. I think carrot was the best character. Will definitely be reading more pratchett

8/10. A very good book, though one that took me far longer than it should have. The humor is reminiscent of Monty Python, so make of that what you will, but beneath the silly veneer is a great deal of depth and reflection on the human condition, I think. I'd recommend the book to most people, though I'm not really sure it's the fantasy that most people expect (despite all the swords and magic and dragons). It's more thoughtful than that, and easily distinguishes itself from most of the bland, generic, predictable fantasy I typically find. I suspect that my rating of this book will only grow higher with time.
“They avoided one another’s faces, for fear of what they might see mirrored there. Each man thought: one of the others is bound to say something soon, some protest, and then I’ll murmur agreement, not actually say anything, I’m not stupid as that, but definitely murmur very firmly, so that the others will be in no doubt that I thoroughly disapprove, because at a time like this it behooves all decent men to nearly stand up and be almost heard… No one said anything. The cowards, thought each man.”

A very snazzy and very classic Pratchett outing. I think after eight of these its easy to take for granted just how impressive a book like this is, and just how funny and creative Terry Pratchett can be, and how easily done he can make it seem.
I'm very excited to see more of the City Watch moving forward.
