A very snazzy and very classic Pratchett outing. I think after eight of these its easy to take for granted just how impressive a book like this is, and just how funny and creative Terry Pratchett can be, and how easily done he can make it seem.

I'm very excited to see more of the City Watch moving forward.

This book is hilarious. You really feel like you're watching a film or in person watching these characters interact. They have such bold personalities and they mesh --or purposefully clash-- perfectly.

Pratchett is a great author. His style matches the characters wacky vibes perfectly. And, he isn't afraid to just bring people, with an insane amount of detail about their lives, in to kill them off. If you read the book, you'll understand what I'm referring to.

Highly recommend this book and planning on reading the rest of the series.

Pulling from and rereading some of my Terry Pratchett collection for my nightstand books!

An all time classic. One of the best in the whole discworld series

Not my favourite Discworld book, but still one of the best. Recommend reading.

i haven’t been reviewing many of the books that i’ve read recently, partly because i’ve been clattering through terry pratchett’s discworld and what is there to say about discworld that hasn’t already been said?

guards! guards! was my least favourite of the storyline beginners that i’ve read so far (wyrd sisters and mort) because to my knowledge, the cast isn’t quite established yet. i did enjoy the second half more so than the first because of the introduction of lady ramkin. she’s just a riot.

this is an entertaining dissection of the chosen one trope and i found it so funny that the chosen one is barely a character at all. terry pratchett’s humour and wit is well known and guards! guards! is no exception.

i think the reason that this didn’t work for me quite as well as the witches is just that the characters didn’t grip me quite as strongly. sam vimes is growing on me and the other watch members are entertaining but were not quite as compelling as granny weatherwax, nanny ogg and magrat.

to be clear, i still really enjoyed this. it’s laugh out loud funny at times and discworld is just the most amazing world. i can’t wait to read more.
