Straż! Straż!

Terry Pratchett

4.25 AVERAGE

The first book in the Watch cycle, it introduces the characters that most Pratchett fans get to know and love - Vimes, Carrott, Colon, Sybil, and well, Nobby.

The problem that the capital city of Discworld is facing is a dragon - not the little swamp dragons that everyone is used to, but an actual flying, large, fire-breathing, gold-hoarding dragon. As Vimes points out to the Patrician, its not likely they know they are extinct yet.

But how does one defeat a dragon? With a hero of course, that becomes a king. But its the Disc, so the heros are a bit less then hereoric, and the Kings' often are so well in disguise, they don't even know they are kings.

Early in my Pratchett reading and entertaining once I comprehended the voice. My only real ongoing problem with the author is the lack of chapter breaks. Makes it REALLY difficult to stop reading...just a few more pages, THEN I'll stop.
