Vimes handed it back .
“Why the sacks?” he said .
“On account of the hoard,” said Throat. “Oh, yes,” said Vimes gloomily.
“Of course.”

There are many horrible sights in the multiverse. Somehow, though, to a soul attuned to the subtle rhythms of a library, there are few worse sights than a hole where a book ought to be. Someone had stolen a book.

Discworld is always a great time, and this book is an excellent chapter in this series. I had such a great time with Carrot, CMOT, and the brief but glorious glimpses of DEATH, Nobby and Colon, and the Librarian. I didn't enjoy the Vimes-Dragon Lady humor as much as the rest of the book. But overall a fantastic time.

Terry Pratchett's commentary on the nature of humankind and our desire to be servile is very interesting. As always, you can never see where the plot is going with Discworld, just strap in for a crazy fun ride.

Very gently, shaking his head in despair, crying in his heart for the essential servility of mankind, Vimes let him go.

Is this my fav Discworld book ? No. The death series holds that position easily. Is this an awesome book to enjoy a lot ?

CERTAINLY.

Me parece un escándalo poder reír tanto con un libro.

Entonces... ¿La gente buena existe, o solo hay gente mala en posiciones enfrentadas?

Beneath the veneer of comedy, Pratchett has aptly depicted the tragedies of everyday life. From the inexplicably sudden nature of death felt through the loss of a loved one, to the hateful bullying done by those in power, to the painfully determined way in which majority of the human beings struggle against mammoth odds, it has all been depicted in a colourful manner in the book.

The one line which really hit me hard and changed the way I viewed the book was:

“What’ll happen when the magic goes away?”
“Most people seem to manage”.
Perhaps the magic would last. Perhaps it wouldn’t. But then, what does?

A good book, well worth a read.
