Overall, a 3.5. It was a great story; good character arcs and twists, but I never found myself drawn into the story. If stories grew on trees, if they were like fruit, then this one was picked before it fully ripened.
I enjoyed reading this book, but it didn't match what I thought of when I saw the title. I was hoping for a story about how tropes or stereotypes about "white trash" were part of a magic system, perhaps pulling from Appalachian myths. However, the magic system and world building were rather weak. There were so many subplots going on at once that it was hard to get invested in any of them. The same was true of the characters. I wanted to like them, but I felt like the author was telling me to like them, not showing me how they were likable. I know that this is meant to be a series, but the whole thing simultaneously felt repetitive and like whiplash at the same time.
As much as i enjoyed the world building, i found myself wanting to know more about the side characters than the main cast. Doesn't pull any punches though. Interesting magic system but it also doesn't quite flow together seamlessly either. 5/10

I expected more, with a title like that, I was hoping to be bewildered or at least to have some levels of comedy.
I kept expecting some big twist or big discovery, but everything was pretty simple and predictable and I worked out most of the twits before the book even reached to it. Lastly, there was so many unanswered questions and family dynamics that are still unsolved, that I was left feeling unfulfilled at the end.
I like that Vic and Adam were honest with their feelings from the get go though.

Yeah somehow this book being a romance escaped me when it caught my eye, this definitely isn't my kinda book at all. That is on me though for still picking it up. Personal taste aside, this was painfully mediocre and sloppily written. I'm glad to be done.
