Absolutely brilliant. I was honestly a bit nervous about buying and reading this because there are so many myths about birth control that are often spread by right-wing activists, and I wasn’t familiar with the author or her previous work. But this book is wonderfully and accessibly written while also being heavily grounded in evidence and in scientific explanations of why certain research is very important but also not necessary conclusive. All-around a great read and will absolutely recommend to others.

2.5… Authors tone was pretty belittling and cringe, which made it hard to get through at times. Also worth mentioning that it’s pretty strictly binary, which I understand to an extent ig but with a drug that’s used for so many other purposes than to prevent pregnancy, feel like that’s a major flaw

I started this on audiobook, it was very dense and honestly made me feel really sad and out of control of my own body. This topic is so important but I just couldn’t get through it

As someone who’s been on the pill for a long time I thought this was really interesting. I didn’t think of all the affects on my brain and personality, I wish I would’ve known them when I was first decided to start taking birth control. I wish it would’ve addressed the affects on other parts of your body aside from the brain and non-binary, lesbian/bi relationships or women transitioning to men and any affects it has on personality and relationships for them.

Hill does a fantastic job of simplifying scientific jargon to help the reader understand what is being said, and why it matters. The bibliography was HUGE, with every point well-cited. I read and re-read it several times as I wrote my paper, and would recommend it to anyone who has ever thought about birth control.
Graphic: Medical content
Moderate: Mental illness, Suicide, and Pregnancy
Minor: Death, Medical trauma, Blood, Cancer, Chronic illness, and Sexism
I over-add content warnings just to be safe, but with this book it talks ABOUT them in a very medical content instead of SHOWING them. Everything is bluntly but careful handled.
