This book shares some similarities with 'Things We Never Got Over' but lacks the element of crime. Having read a lot of Lucy's books, I felt a sense of familiarity when I began this one.

I found the story interesting, but the narrative fell a bit flat for me. Initially, it was quirky and fun, and I thought that might just be the vibe of the small town in this book. However, as the story progressed, some aspects became unbelievable.

I understand this is fiction, but as a reader, I still want the story to feel close to reality so that I can resonate with it. Unfortunately, this book didn't achieve that. For instance, Hazel's efforts to help the town became increasingly absurd.

On the characters, I enjoyed having a writer as the female main character. I could relate to her moments of zoning out or when she was being quirky in her writer's mindset. However, I didn't feel the same way about Cam; he raised some red flags for me. In the past, I've enjoyed red flag characters, but Cam just didn’t work for me. He seemed somewhat manipulative, didn't know how to listen, and often resorted to love-bombing.

While the chemistry between the characters was evident, it felt overly lustful, lacking a deeper connection.

There was also an uncomfortable power imbalance. At times, it seemed like Cam was using Hazel, especially since she built the Heart House and he gradually started moving his things in.

I hope the next books in this series improve.
