Hazel is newly divorced and being kicked out of her nyc apartment. She’s been unable to write other people’s happily ever afters since her own went sideways.
On a whim she buys a house in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania and finds her inspiration in a grumpy contractor who she desperately needs to repair her new home. But the small town drama quickly entangles her until she ends up a real life heroine having to fix the towns financial troubles before it’s too late.
As an unofficial connoisseur of amazing workplace comedies, I couldn’t help but feel that Story Lake reminded me of all my favorite unhinged fictional towns. Specifically Pawnee from parks and rec with the way too intense and also kind of slightly insane townsfolk.
I was hooked on this audiobook and rooting for the town to win with Hazel leading the charge especially as Hazel found her voice and finally stood up for herself. Cam was a very reluctant hero but I love any excuse for a good grovel and if it involves furry friends then I’m sold. I fell hard for Cam’s entire family and I can only hope his brothers have their own HEAs on the way.
