Those of you who love Nish Tuli will know what I mean when I say, this book DELIVERED! I swear I’m new to her writing, with her books being on my TBR for years and I’m KICKING MYSELF for my mistake of not starting them sooner.
This story gave me what I have come to hope for from a Romantic fantasy with epic South Asian mythology.
There are sweet moment like.. a first kiss! One that is sticking to my mind as I write this review. I felt that rollercoaster in my tummy, my heart speeding up at the moment when Zarya felt those things too. And then there is that heartbreak and the pain of finding out things she didn’t expect.
All in all this was a great start to this epic journey with Zarya.

Vibes- it has the good foundation of a first book in the series. The different reveals and increased mystery surround Zaryia is well done. There were large periods of time when things were slow, but having only read the first book, that may be why.
Summary-
Zaryia has been held captive her whole life when one day the magic that held her captive is gone. She goes on a mission to explore the world and discovers “the blight” an increase of evil magic. She comes into her own magic, makes her first friend and tries to help in anyway she can.

It was kind of confusing to start with. Some of the terminology and creatures were unfamiliar and a lot of characters were introduced. Kept going and mostly figured things out world-building wise. Great characters.
4⭐️
Wow, the world building in this is amazing. I loved the magic system, and I'm hoping we get to learn more about it in the next book given how this one ends.
Zarya is a very interesting main character. She takes no shit and isn't afraid to tell you what she thinks, which i love. As far as love interests go, Vikram was sweet and their connection felt genuine. However, it was obvious given the listed tropes that he was not the main guy and I'm definitely interested to see what happens next with mystery dream guy.
I at one point thought Yasen was a love interest (for reasons that become obvious he isn't an option at all), the friendship they developed was one of the best parts of the book for me. I'm a sucker for the found family trope and this book does it well. I really liked Amrita, too, so I'm almost sad at how her story is likely to go.
I've gone with 4 stars because I did find that some of the side characters blurred together a little. There's a lot and mixed with them all having different magic i almost felt like i should make notes (having started book 2 the author has helpfully done that at the start which is great).
Overall, I really enjoyed the book, and I'm excited to continue the series. I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
