Heart of Night and Fire is the first in a new fantasy romance series from Nisha J Tuli. Filled with excitement and oozing with myths and legends inspired by Indian and South Asian culture, this was a wonderful book to just lose yourself within.

For 20 years Zarya has been kept away from everyone with no clue as to why, but when the blight from the south brings more evil creatures and her carer, Row goes missing, Zarya suddenly finds she can go and discover the world she's only ever dreamed of.

This a stunning first book in the series, the whimsical world of the peri and the myths mingling with the darker legends gave me a feel of a Stephanie Garber, Caraval type of book, but with the exotic setting it's definitely a unique novel.

There's a wonderful cast of characters to fall in love with. I couldn't put this book down with all the plot twists and turns. Tuli does a brilliant job of bringing the world to life and her descriptions make you feel as though you're really there. I can't wait for book 2 to see how Zarya's story continues.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an e-arc in return for an honest review.

Is it possible for a book to move too fast?? There was just so much going on with the magic system and the cities.

This book was so good and I’m going to start the second one ASAP. Powerful and likeable FMC, found family trope, hidden power trope, secret heir to the throne and 2 love interests who happen to be brothers? Honestly the best combo ever. I’m looking forward to the next book, especially because I think it’s going to be enemies to lovers (secondary storyline).

I absolutely loved this book! Strong FMC who is trying to discover her past and who she is. I love a slow burn and a FMC that is underestimated. And this book has it all!

I received an ARC of Heart of Night and Fire via NetGalley. After reading the blurb and learning that it was inspired by Indian mythology, I was really excited to read this. Sadly, my excitement waned as I began reading the book. Despite my disappointment, I did keep reading. This wasn't a bad book, it just was not for me.

What I liked about it was that it kept me reading. There was a high-stakes plot and enough intrigue to keep me turning the pages. I really enjoyed that it wasn't your typical Celtic-inspired mythology; it was good to break from the typical fantasy mold and dive into something new.

But unfortunately for me, what I didn't like about Heart of Fire outweighed what I liked about it. Zarya was hidden away from the world. The only people she knew were her adoptive father and brother. She is 21 in the book but acted like a teenager. Even accepting that she was bound to make a few bad choices because a) it helps move the plot along and b) she's sheltered, there were too many things she did that didn't make sense. There also wasn't much foreshadowing; all of the big reveals were very obviously divulged. There were no subtle hints; just overt presentations of plot points that were confirmed a few chapters later.
