Well isn't this a tease and a half, as soon as you think you know what's going on Waters throws an epic curve that doesn't just twist you around it does it at speed too. I shan't say too much more about the story as it will just spoil it but Waters has weaved a superb tale with vivid and engrossing characters that feel like they're jumping right off the streets of London. Added to this her ability to pack a lot of detail in without confusing or losing the reader, this is a story that grabs you and does not let you go, not until you've passed the last page.

The first part was fantastic, but as soon as I started the second part which is basically the first part told all over again but from another characters perspective I just lost all interest. Plus the sheer amount of child abuse in this book is so heart wrenching that it makes me want to continue reading even less. :(

stayed up until after midnight reading this, like a child with a torch under the covers! flew by, hooked me in! love the atmosphere of the setting, love the dominoing twists, love the commitment to being a romp & how that never comes at the expense of research, intelligence or style

This book held me fixed on it for weeks. First time in ages I ever got surprised by plot twists. Excellent storytelling, but it lays it on thick on the misery, some parts could've been shorter.
