This book has been on my TBR for years and I finally got to it because of a buddy read in my bookclub! Yayyy!

It's a bit slow, but it's so good and I love all the
Spoiler plot twists and double crosses. I got so agitated at certain parts of the story and it was also so painful to see
Spoilerhow a woman has almost zero options if she has no man's "protection".

This book made me feel a lot of feelings. I loved it!

This book was such a great surprise the first time I read it and since a lot of that felt like it came down to the fantastic twists, I wondered if my feelings would change on a second viewing, especially after having watched and enjoyed the Korean adaptation which shuffled up the twists in pretty major ways. However I still love this book, I still think it's the best book Sarah Waters has written so far, and as much as I did enjoy The Handmaiden, Maud and Sue are more interesting characters to me because of how deeply flawed they are as people. They don't always make good or nice choices but you still root for them. I do think the third act twist is the least interesting of the three major twists but it leads to a happy ending so I can't really complain too much. Great book.

3.5 it was almost like there were too many twists in this book. And definitely not enough lesbians being happy

This novel dragged in bits for me that it might not for more of a Victorian history buff, but I thought that the plotting was fantastic and the character development superb.
