This was such a solid debut! I had no idea the author was a true crime podcaster, but it makes sense because this felt like true crime mixed with a thriller. The atmosphere was eerie and I definitely felt some anxiety creeping in while reading.
I loved the author’s note at the beginning too. It added a personal touch and gave even more depth to the story.
I really enjoyed going on this journey with Nola. There were so many secrets, chilling moments, and that creeping sense of dread. I wasn’t expecting it, but there’s a little bit of something for everyone: mystery, horror, family drama, and a bit of romance. The podcast angle made it even more realistic. I was fully into it and will definitely check out more by this author in the future.

Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook!
This was a fun listen with the narrators doing an amazing job, despite the main character making some of very questionable decisions. Girl put down the wine at least if you're convinced you're being stalked by a murderer. Blacking out three nights in a row while alternating fearing for your life and denying any danger at all is crazy. I liked that she hosted a things that go bump in the night podcast instead of a true crime one.
Speaking of, the author is a true crime podcast host and it is clear she does not care for the police or their abilities bc giving the detective a pov just to make him at best incompetent and at worst actively impeding the investigation is wild. But if police in thrillers did their jobs, we wouldn't have final girls.
One star off for the finale being a thriller faux pas (I won't tell you which one)

It was a fun, solid thriller. The author did a great job at creating and maintaining tension and utilized cliffhangers that were effective and not annoying. I do wish we got a bit more time with Nola being face to face with the killer because it seemed to resolve quickly. We had just heard so much of this killer and his lore, only for the climactic meeting last a couple pages. Nonetheless, I great read for stormy weather.
