Listened to the audiobook, almost DNF with an hour to go on the audiobook.  The FMC was stubborn, her intelligence was superficial. I expected a more powerful or cunning assassin dynamic, maybe more banter? The MMC he respected females a powerful, intelligent people but was constantly holding the FMC back or underestimating her.

I thought the first spicy scene has potential. Once they really had spice I was bored.

The plot became very predictable.  There quite a bit of vomit talk in this book too. This book was published after ACOTAR. I wonder if this author took the vomit talk from SJM.

This seemed like the kind of book you pick up in an airport if you have a flight-reading-emergency.

When I first started reading this book I thought it was terribly predictable - and it was. But the world was intriguing. The series was highly recommended and seeing that there are 4 more books, I decided to keep going and I'm really happy that I kept going. This book sets up so much more. Books 1&2 follow Lara and Aren, 3&4 are Keris and Zarrah (the best so far!), 5 and eventually 6 are Ahnna and James.

The ending is rough, I'm not going to lie. It's one that makes you yell at the FMC over and over again because EVERYONE sees it coming but it's written well and everything ends in a way that makes you want to pick up the next book immediately.

I was looking for something to fill a Throne of Glass series hole and these books did the trick and now I can't wait for #6.

This is simply a #1 that kinda sets the stage - Let her cook.

I liked the beginning of the book but I started seeing flaws in the characters - like why is the king giving his enemy his trust pretty early on? If they were enemies she really would’ve been locked up initially. I had trouble finding Lara’s depth and wish she would’ve thought things through more earlier.

This is a really really interesting book. There's no magic/mythical creatures, but takes place in a different world with a ton of world building. This is a true enemies to lover story, and arrange marriage/marriage of convenience/forced proximity. Spice is there but not much of it.

I was enthralled from page 3. This was my first fiction audiobook and I really enjoyed it. The story is fantastic. Its fast paced, and while the overall arc is predictable, the storyline itself is not. The main characters are soooo intriguing, but so are all the side characters. This story is well written and would recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.
