I used this a brain break in the middle of all this govermental turmoil and distress and school and life thingies happening all at once and it did it's job very well because the hyperfocus on the details and the relationships and the conversations was enhanced times 1000x. only listened to it while driving.

honestly, it did it's job too well.

It's a lot of characters to keep up with and a lot of things happening all at once, but overall a really fun intro to the world

Almost DNF’d after the sexist drivel on the second page (which unfortunately repeats throughout the book), and now wish I would have. Different flavors of sexism/misogyny, toxic masculinity, judgy religious crap, confusing plot…just very disappointed. The bones were there, but it needed a LOT more work. It unfortunately it had just enough decent writing that I kept ignoring my gut and would trudge on through all the problematic (and also boring) content. Enough so that I was somewhat considering trying the next book out…until I read in a comment that there’s a full on rape scene in book 3. So continuing this series is a big ol’ NOPE from me.

and I’m still just so honestly shocked that this was written by a woman. This came out in 2006, so I hope the author has recognized her internalized misogyny and has worked on that by now. We get enough of it from crappy men - we don’t need women shilling that too (that and toxic masculinity being regarded as romantic or just good in any sense)

Why are her werewolves trash? They hate gay people and don't accept them because "they're actual predicators and even MORE aggressive than the straight werewolf." Then the wolves are misogynistic and they view women poorly and as the weakest links of their packs. Why though?

This was just as boring as Alpha and Omega and Cry Wolf. Someone promised me that Mercy Thompson was THEE paranormal urban fantasy series to get into. I read Cry Wolf and it's prequel novella and gave them both 2 stars.

There's little to no action until about 60% of the way through the book, it took me 10 days to finish this, it was so boring.

This is the last Patricia Briggs book I'm reading, I tried three separate times and all three reads got 2 stars from me.

I'm giving this two stars.

A good, quick read! A little cliched, but still enjoyable. I’m excited to read the next in the series.

As much as I enjoy the story, the prevalent Christianity and cultural appropriation of Indigenous cultures and beliefs means I won't be spending any more money on this series.
