I finished this book some time ago, but I've been struggling to make up my mind about it. This may be an unpopular opinion, as I have seen a lot of great reviews for this.

Namesake picks off right after the ending of Fable. We follow Fable on a new adventure, as she has been kidnapped and taken to sea with no chance of escape. I thought this was an interesting turn of events, but despite my initial interest, I never really felt engaged in the story. I also thought the story became a bit predictable towards the end.

Even though I enjoyed the first book, I was never really invested in Fable and West. This book didn't change that. I liked the crew of the Marigold in the first book, but felt they were kind of left behind in this book. Koy was a nice addition though.

Saint is by far the most interesting character of the series. The best thing about this book for me was the father-daughter relationship between him and Fable, and I would have liked more of that. I'm still a little puzzled by Saint's reasons though..

would have been 4 if she didn’t end up with west

This was fine? 2.5 stars, but rounding up because there were parts I did really like. However, the things I didn’t like were big.
My main gripe about this book is that I still don’t know why Fable likes West. In Fable, she is suddenly in love with him 3/4 of the way through the story and they spent the first half of this book apart. When they came back together, there was really no additional context given as to why they care about each other. West is gruff and grumpy and doesn’t communicate and Fable is like

I wanted to really like this series. Every time I finally felt invested, someone would make a decision that would put them through unnecessary turmoil. It just pissed me off.

Also someone needs to teach West and Saint how to express love in a way that doesn’t ruin their lives. They’re so bad at it.
