4/5 - The first in a duet, this was a wild and slightly uncomfy start. Reese is 18, just graduated high school and is spending the summer with her mom, who spent the last 5 years in prison. Reese spent the last 5 years as Therese, living with her ultra religious grandparents and attending a Christian school. Her mom lives in the basement of a house, and the landlord, Fisher, is 28, smokin hot (knows it), and owns/operates a construction company. I’m sure you can see where this is headed!
While the age gap and religious trauma were a little tough at first, Ann really unpacks these two MCs as individuals, especially Reese. And I genuinely didn’t expect to love them as much as I did, inhaling part I of their story in a day! I do wish we got Fisher’s POV. Stick with this one though, the ending is unexpected and part II will blow your mind!

I gave it a go because the reviews were promising! However, I couldn’t get myself to enjoy it and I never felt the connection between the main characters. I also wasn’t a fan of a 28 yr old, very experienced man trying to get into the pants of and corrupt an inexperienced and highly religious 18 yr old girl. Him making her feel bad for having morals and values didn’t sit well and overall, I didn’t feel any sparks just some uncomfortable and creepy vibes.
Ps: I might be biased towards not liking it as I have siblings ten years younger than me and thinking about any of my friends or people my age dating them makes me wanna yak

I’ve been trying to write this review for days. I give up, I’m keeping it short.
This just did not work for me. I love this author, but I did not love this book.
However, I’m going to attempt book 2, since I see it has better reviews.
