Wow, certainly a change from the last book I read. I thought this was going to be horror, but it was just a crime drama. A man has his wife and daughter murdered, but at the same time they were meant to be murdered he is sure he sees his daughter in a car in front of him on the highway. For the next three years he searches up and down the highway looking for his daughter. Turns out there is this secret organisation called the Other People who do favours for people, where in return you will be asked to do a favour. Someone had requested that his wife and daughter be murdered and then it all spirals from there. It was ok, easy to read and a page turner.

Too many elements in one book so all felt weak.

This book is an absolutely wild ride. Although I did see a lot of the plot twists coming, there were some that completely through me and I could not believe what just happened.
There's so much to this story, a little but of magic, and a whole lot of freaky as shit.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

Entertaining read! A little bit tragedy, a little bit vigilante justice, and a little bit supernatural.

"The Other People" by C.J. Tudor is an uputdownable mix of thriller and mystery with just a touch of supernatural thrown in for good measure.
The novel begins by following a few apparently unrelated storylines, that end up converging as the plot progresses.
Everything gets wrapped up perfectly in the end, even the bits that seemed not to make any sense earlier on.
I enjoyed the convoluted plot, the unforgettably flawed characters and the originality of the core idea: an organization of people brought together by tragedy and grief, all equally sharing the role of instigators and henchmen/henchwomen in a complicated tangle of lies and crimes. This modern equivalent of the classic pact-with-the-devil trope is something pretty much unexplored in the thriller landscape, and I found it very interesting. There might be room for a few more books set in the same universe, further developing the idea, because it still has a lot of potential.
Something else I liked in this novel is the sheer unpredictability of the plot twists: most of them had me totally blindsighted.
I don't want to spoil it for anybody, but a couple of secondary characters ended up becoming my favourite ones, by the time the book ended.
What I didn't like was the way the supernatural elements were handled. It felt like the supernatural bits had no real place in the story, like they had been thrown in just to create some kind of atmosphere. The paranormal element didn't fit in with the rest of the narration at all.
Overall, anyway, it was a very pleasant listen. Richard Armitage's beautiful voice was, as always, impeccable in bringing the different characters to life, making them unique and so very human.

Mehhhh. This could have been so good.

C.J Tudor wrote one of my favorite mystery/thrillers, The Chalk Man, so when I heard of her 2020 release, I could not wait to read it! Whereas I loved the beginning of this book, I had trouble with the pacing and felt the middle dragged despite this being a short read. Also, the ending was extremely underwhelming!!

Not a terrible book. Tudor's writing is very good and gripping. I wanted to keep reading, even when I started to have problems with the plot. Also, Tudor is amazing at creating tension and creepy atmospheres in her works- which is similar to The Chalk Man.

This isn't a read that I would recommend to everyone, but you may enjoy this if you are looking for a short, intriguing read with a dark atmosphere.
