It wasn't terrible by any means, and it took me less than an hour and a half to read so I can't complain too much, and there were certainly little snippets and sentences that made me go "Hey, I do that!" -- but in the end, I think reading books like this has just reinforced that this kind of vague philosophical, disconnected-yet-lyrical, complete-lack-of-plot-and-characters kind of novel is just not for me.
Weather was nothing like I expected. It is written almost like a diary, or stream of consciousness, so it’s a quick read, but it also feels more intimate in a way, maybe because the snippets sort of float in your subconscious, and then expand and meld into a story without you really working towards that end.
This book won’t be everyone’s cup of tea; when I finished it my immediate thought was “that’s it?” which was followed by “that was pretty cool.”

What gibberish is this?
Me at start: This should be an easy read to start off the new year.
Me 25% in: I like this random thoughts, diary entry style.
Me 50% in: I can’t deal with this writing style.
Me 75% in: The story is set in Canada??
Me at finish: Wtf did I just read.

I often love books in academic ways. I can see their various features and admire them. But this book—which, notably, I read during the increasingly fretful early days of corona quarantine—felt like the very inside of my own brain and body turned out. It was that familiar and distressing. The paper in the first edition is very heavy and so I tended to think there were many more pages still to read than there actually were. I was indignant when this novel ended before I was ready to be done staring at my own inner world.
