This book is so, so fluffy and very low stakes. I’m giving it a 4 because that’s EXACTLY what I wanted today.
-cozy vibes, set at a village matchmaking faire
-Duke who truly sees her
-did I mention super low stakes?

A little heart goes a long way. Beguiling the Duke is a little bit obvious, but no less irresistible. Law and Sadie turn temptation into heartwarming. Burke gives humor a try with surprising results.
Beguiling the Duke by Darcy Burke
Lords in Love #1
Duke meets country woman and sparks fly – can they find happiness or is the societal divide too large to overcome?
What I liked:
* Sadie: mid-twenties, only daughter with four brothers and widowed father, taken for granted, works hard, ready to settle down, eager to meet her match and start a home and family of her own
* Lawford: duke, brother, father sounded a bit overbearing, on his way to meet his almost betrothed, rather taken with Sadie, begins to realize what he wants and be willing to go for it
* The concept of the Marrywell Mayday Matchmaking Festival
* That Sadie’s family slowly began to realize they were taking advantage of Sadie
* The side romance between Mavis (Sadie’s maid) and Holdon (Lawford’s coachman)
* The introduction to a new series I believe will center around the Festival
* That it was a bit predictable and also a bit like a fairytale – a solid story but not my favorite by this author
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I don’t know what I just read, but Sadie’s character did not really align with her actions. Also, the speed of the relationship was both backwards and lighting fast.
Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Cursing
Law and Sadie's romance is the first offering in the dual author ([a:Darcy Burke|5823441|Darcy Burke|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1507321163p2/5823441.jpg] and [a:Erica Ridley|3087787|Erica Ridley|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1527776971p2/3087787.jpg]) Lords in Love series. It introduces the town of Marrywell and its annual May Day Matchmaking festival, both of which will feature in (at least some of the) future books.
I enjoyed watching Law and Sadie's dynamic shift as the book continued--from their meeting, when he assumed she was the housekeeper (instead of just doing all the work of one and then some) and then asked the men of her family all of the same questions that she'd already answered (who would have thought that they'd give the same answers?) to the end, when they not only arrived at their much-earned HEA but he'd managed to help convince nearly everyone around them to stop taking her for granted.
Overall he was fairly unassuming for a duke, but he could still pull out the haughty aristocrat when needed ;)
The festival sounds like a lot of fun--though also a lot of pressure, as Sadie's first experience demonstrated--and I look forward to seeing it and the town in future books. I really enjoyed the authors' last joint series effort (Wicked Dukes Club) and am looking forward to seeing what else this one has in store for us!
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was my second book by Darcy Burke and it was a nice easy read, even if not as fun as the Runaway viscount. It was nice enough but I didn't mind pausing it for a few days to read 2 other ARC I received in the same week before finishing this one. There's no real drama (I honestly didn't think there was enough reason for the heroine to refuse him) but it makes for a nice read over the week end I guess.
My biggest issue is that some of the language seems too modern for the time period.
